So you may have a noticed I haven't done a proper blog post for a while. This for a number of reasons:
1. I never realised how stressful it is to apply to university in Japan. The minute details they look at on a form is ridiculous! Apparently it's possible to make a circle too big when circling an option. For example, "circle your gender," easy enough, right? On the paper there's the number 2 because it's the second option (the first being male) the kanji for female and the word "female" in English. I circled it all. This is wrong!!! I was only supposed to circle the number 2. UGH! So that was pretty time consuming.
2. University student life in general. What can I say? It has it's ups and downs but now that seems to have levelled out, which is good.
3. [Warning this post contains an unpopular opinion] Here comes the controversial opinion...I feel uninspired. This is awful coming from a self proclaimed fashion blogger. So far this season has been kind of disappointing. Even without me keeping up with the latest trends in high fashion I can usually tell what's going on when I see the watered down, cheaper versions lining the shelves of River Island, and honestly I'm bored. Last year saw the 90's grunge revival and so far I've seen, well, even more throwback stuff (mostly 70s). I just feel really 'been there done that' (even though I wasn't alive anywhere near the 70s). Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. I just feel everything that's going on is the same. Even supposed 'alternative' fashion brands are churning out the same internet princess/bae nonsense. Everyone has loud mismatched print with huge shoes and a bucket hat. Or you have the Kim K fans with their nude crop top and midi set. Even the kawaii community is merging into a pastel mess. It's beyond boring.
I'm not saying that I don't adhere to these trends, I do. I find myself melting into them subconsciously. But I never fully adapt my self or my style to what is trending right now. I like to take bits and mix and match them with each other. It makes it more interesting and original! At least I hope I'm doing that. That's why I often feel like people will never notice me or my style as much as other fashionistas out there who have learned that to be popular you have to be able to do one style and be really good at it and never stray from that style. Because as soon as you change yourself people won't like it because they don't like change. But that's so boring. And once your style goes out of fashion, goodbye army of followers. So in my mind, it's better to do what I want to do and if I get get noticed then great! If not, who cares? (Okay, I care a little). In either case I'd prefer just enjoying myself and don't you think it's better to be yourself and be appreciated for who you are, not force yourself into a fad that you don't like or doesn't suit you just to get followers on social media? Doesn't that just sound so lame??
It's time to turn off the wifi and take out those septum piercings kids!
Choom xoxo
