Exams are finally over and it's the Christmas holidays woohoo! I didn't realise how quickly Christmas was approaching so I went out to do my Christmas present shopping today. Honestly Christmas shopping is the worst, especially anywhere in the vicinity of Oxford Street. It's too stressful which makes it harder trying to buy presents for your family and friends because you want to leave the madness as soon as possible. I managed once again to conquer my inability to dress for winter (I WANT SUN I WANT TO BE IN HONG KONG) but obviously ignored the need for practical shoes even though I knew I'd be traipsing around all day looking for presents. Oh well. 仕方がないねー!
Jacket - Pull & Bear
Body - Miss Selfridge
Skirt - YesStyle
Underskirt - American Apparel
Tights - ASOS
Shoes - Bodyline
These pictures came out so well despite being taken at 1am. I had to use the flash because there's no decent lighting anywhere in my house but after putting it through my fancy photo editing software (Photoscape, aha, it's free) the pictures turned out to be quite artsy. I had a lot of fun shooting this and I think I tend to look really serious and posey in most of my outfit photos but I'm not like that at all in person!
I put a ruffle skirt under the main skirt to give it a bit of poof and pinned them both (literally with a safety pin) to sit higher on my waist, to show off the crown tights. I will be buying more crown tights as I'm prone to ripping every single pair of tights I own even if I buy a size larger on purpose to prevent this from happening. I would recommend buying more than one pair of patterned tights or in fact any tights because they will rip eventually, guaranteed.
I love the jacket because it's so warm for winter and also the perfect length as it shows enough poof of the skirt.
The Totoro necklace I bought a while back at a convention so I don't know where you can get them now, sorry!
Finally, the shoes. Well I haven't worn these out yet because I didn't know what to wear them with and also for fear of falling over. I'm glad to say I didn't fall over...completely. I did twist my ankle a few times though. Most would think the danger is the missing heel but it isn't. In fact you don't even notice there is no heel when you walk, it's the high slope of the front of the shoe that's dangerous. I only became aware of the Rocking Horse shoe style through the manga NANA but the character's shoes are Vivienne Westwood and mine are from Bodyline. Maybe I'll save up to get a real pair, but to be honest I'm really happy with the shoes. Bodyline have so many bad reviews so I never bought from them online, but when I went to Japan this summer I tried them on in the shop in Harajuku and fell in love. They're really comfortable and affordable. So these particular shoes I can definitely recommend!

The look is a take on lolita but lolita's would never have the skirt so short so...I could never be a proper lolita. So I called this Neo Lolita. I don't know if it's a thing yet, maybe soon it will be?
