So I went on a little trip to Oxford for the weekend to see an old school friend. The last time I was in Oxford it was for the dreaded university interviews so I didn't get a proper chance to look around. It's a great change of scenery from London as it's all cobbled streets and historical sites. I visited a few colleges, one with a deer park but no deer, Oxford central and the Botanic gardens. Also, since it's the end of exams for some students I even witnessed people getting trashed by their friends. If you don't know, 'trashing' is an old Oxford/Cambridge (maybe Durham?) tradition where your friends throw eggs, silly string and other stuff on you after your last exam then you go off and drink loads of alcohol. Fun.
Day 1
Merton College (I pretended to be a student so I could get in for free)
Wadham College
We went to a Thai restaurant in Oxford central called Thaikhun and Edwin had a really nice Thai ice tea, I was so jealous I should have got one. It was basically 100% sugar with tea, my fave kind of drink. Sweet. The toilets at this place were pretty cool too, along with all the decor. It was made to look like the streets of Bangkok to go with the Thai street food they served.
Cobbled streets and narrow lanes.

Day 2
The Oxford Botanic gardens

The 'Edwin discovers plants' series.
Apart from seeing the sights of Oxford in clothing that wasn't weather appropriate (do I ever dress appropriately let's be honest) I really enjoyed chilling at home watching TV with Edwin. It's nice to catch up with old friends and know they haven't changed since you last saw them. That's always the fear when people go off to uni isn't it? That their personality drastically changes or something.
I did notice when walking around however that I stood out so much. The people of Oxford wear clothing that really blends in with the surroundings so the colours are really muted and the pieces are always practical and simple. So there was a stark contrast between them in their Gore-Tex jackets, indigo jeans and Oxford flats (aptly named) and me...in a bright pink and blue varsity jacket and heels that made it impossible to walk on the quaint cobbled streets. I could never live in Oxford I'm too bright and the streets are too cobbled, it's not very platform friendly.
