I'm not very good at accessorising as in I usually forget to put on a necklace, bracelet, ring etc unless I've put it on the day before, gone to sleep in it and then woken up with it on ready to wear the next day. I have my ears pierced and I barely wear earrings unless I do the above process ie sleep with them in. Recently I've been wanting to step up my accessories game and because 90s fashion is back on trend, a lot of people have started to wear chokers. At the moment tattoo chokers are the 'it' choker but I'm really not a fan. I think because to me it's the fact they are plastic which makes them look childish and tacky (also probably because I have a picture of myself at nine years old wearing one so that's where the association comes from). I personally prefer these (the ones in this post) to the ones in fashion such as the thin piece of leather/rope chokers or tattoo chokers which are really insignificant and aren't really all that interesting to be honest. Oooh unpopular opinion.
The first choker is a simple black velvet ribbon with a silver female (Venus) symbol. The size of the decoration isn't overpowering and there's no weight so I don't feel it at all around my neck. I love this because as well as being the symbol for females it's also the planet sign of one of my favourite Sailor Senshis, Sailor Venus!
The second is again a black velvet choker but with a silver chain and bell (which jingles!!). The velvet part is thinner than the above choker which suits the size of the bell and chain.
The next one has a pink ribbon and gold chain. I like the fact it's weighty because I often feel with costume jewellery, they all have the 'gold look' but when you hold them they're usually light and plastic feeling. Obviously, because of the weight you may feel some discomfort but not to the point where you can't wear it all day. I fastened this one more loosely so it sat on the base of my neck.
Alternatively fasten the choker more tightly so it sits in the middle of your neck. This choker is the same as the above apart from the colour of the ribbon which is a pale blue.
Such a good angle...
The first two chokers are from Twirly Trinkets an online Etsy store, based in the UK which ships worldwide. There are so many choices of choker and you can completely customise your choker with a different colour ribbon, size of ornament and length of chain. I measured my neck to be 11.5 inches so I ordered the 11.5 + 2 inches length for my choker and it fits perfectly. There are four standard sizes (three adult one child) or you can request a custom size. The shipping was so quick and cheap (95p domestic shipping) and the price of the chokers of themselves were cheap (£3.99 each). The owner is very friendly and even sent me a coupon for a discount off my next order!
The other two chokers were from Topshop and were £8 each. I really think it was a good purchase considering the weight and the perfect pastel colouring of the chokers.
I hope you enjoyed my review and I hope it helps with future purchases!
Choom xoxo
